A Collaboration between I Culture Bhd and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman

Synopsis

Purple sweet potatoes are not only a good source of beta-carotene but also a rich source of anthocyanin pigments, which act as antioxidants which can help to reduce inflammation and boost immune system. Purple sweet potatoes are grown on a large scale in Malim Nawar, a village under Kampar district. In Malim Nawar, the production of the sweet potatoes, including purple sweet potatoes, reached a daily harvest of 20 tonnes. The farmers, on the other hand, faced obstacles in transporting agricultural products including purple sweet potatoes across the country due to numerous epidemic prevention measures. The sales are down since Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.

The decline of tin mining industry has caused the lost prosperity of Kampar town. We hope to restore the lustre of this once-famous small town by introducing local high-quality agricultural inputs as the sustainable development products.

Objectives

1. Develop new food product with enhanced shelf-life using purple sweet potatoes.

2. Promote local agricultural products, specifically purple sweet potatoes.
